Correct spelling, explanation: the word famous is an adjective and therefore a derivative of the noun fame. It’s a combination of two elements: the root (without the last vowel) and the -ous suffix, which means full of and is one of the most common adjective endings. In other words, famous is full of fame. You can’t add another vowel to it. That’s why famouse is incorrect.
Definition of famous:
adjective, known and recognized by many people
Susan always wanted to become a famous actress.
My boyfriend’s sister is really successful and famous.
Collocations with famous:
Some most commonly used collocations include: to become famous, famous last words, and famous for something.
Incorrect spelling, explanation: famouse is quite an unfortunate misspelling because it reminds us of the word mouse. The adjective famous doesn’t have anything to do with this animal. It’s a derivative of the noun fame and was created by adding a common suffix to this noun. You shouldn’t put an additional vowel at the end of it. Famous is the only correct version.
