Both spellings are correct and mean exactly the same – a color between white and black.

Correct spelling, this version is more common in American English.

Correct spelling, this version is common in all the other main varieties of English (including Britain).

After I researched a couple of of the sites, I actually adore that approach of explaining right way to spell. At this point that is my fav guide.
