Correct spelling, explanation: the reason for this spelling is the suffix -ful (meaning full of, characterized by) is written with just one l (which may be confusing due to its meaning). Thus help + ful is helpful, not helpfull.
Definition of helpful:
adjective, characterized by a willingness to help
She was very helpful and explained to me the whole homework.
Assistants in this shop aren’t much helpful and sometimes they are rude. I don’t go there anymore.
Incorrect spelling, explanation: the spelling of this word may be confusing, because of the meaning that suffix -ful gives to an adjective (full of or characterized by), but this suffix is spelled only with one l. This is why helpful is the correct form. Helpfull is a common misspelling.

Why dont we write it as helpfull
Hello! Thank you very much for this! it was very ‘helpful’ see what I did there? lol anyways I’m writing a feedback thing for a children’s hospital and I didn’t know if it was helpful or helpfull! you see I’m writing it on paper and auto-correct isn’t a thing on paper except for this awesome website! lucky I did ‘helpful’ first just in-case it was ‘helpfull’. I will check back for words that I do not know how to spell! (Also I’m very sorry if I don’t do that much capitalisation I can’t do it that well without like auto-correct or you to be honest!) Now everyone I recommend this! if there was a rating system it would get, ★★★★★. but people who don’t like using websites that much then use a dictionary! Thanks so much! (Agian lol). Also a tip for how I did the stars, go onto setting > general > keyboard > keyboards > add new keyboard > Japanese – Kana or setting > general > keyboard > keyboards > add new keyboard > Japanese – Romaji.
Thanks for clearing that up. After all these years using English, reading, writing, sometimes we go blank. This was really helpful. 🙂
Oh boy I totally assumed the second spelling is valid. Thank you for this info.
This was very helpful.
