Correct spelling, explanation: perimeter is a noun that consists of two parts: the prefix peri- and the word meter. Peri- is a word-forming element in words of Greek origin or formation meaning around, about, enclosing. You can’t change it to pera-, because it doesn’t exist. You must be very careful when spelling this word. Perimeter is the only correct form and perameter is the incorrect one.
Definition of perimeter:
noun, the outer edge of an area of land or the border around it
A mine blew a hole in the perimeter wall.
We walked around the perimeter of the prison.
Collocations with perimeter:
Some most commonly used collocations include: defensive perimeter and outer perimeter.
The mountain is a crucial link in the city’s defensive perimeter.
Only two soldiers survive, crash-landing in the outer perimeter of the facility.
Incorrect spelling, explanation: the word perameter is an error – you should spell it as perimeter. In order not to make this mistake, it is worth finding out what the prefix peri- means. It comes from Ancient Greek and it means around or surrounding, near and during. Perimeter is the only correct version of this noun and you have to remember that.
