Incorrect spelling, explanation: in British English the correct spelling of the word is cancellation. A common mistake, however, is to spell it as cancelation. It is the result of the fact that the root of the word is the verb to cancel, which features a single -l letter while cancellation has it doubled. Therefore, the cancelation form is considered to be wrong, but it is acceptable in American English.
